My interests in the sport span the last 25 years and since then I have tried my hand at most R/C disciplines and have amassed an extensive collection of models in the process. With a keen interest in motorsport and being a farmer by profession, I have always had a love for things big and fast. I had many ducted fan models in the 90’s, however with space restrictions being a problem; I sought a more suitable flying site. In 1996 I was a founding member of Langford Model Aviation based at Langford Lodge, a club dedicated to larger scale models which I have been the club chairman since it began. I participate regularly at local, national and international events. I am a 2 time Northern Ireland Scale Champion. In 2005 I qualified to represent Northern Ireland at the 7th World Jet Masters and was placed 33rd out of over 80 pilots from around the world.

I dabbled as a kid with rubber models and a Cox control line model, before sports took over. Injured myself playing rugby and needed a less physical hobby so returned to modelling. Learned to fly R/C power at the Lanark club in Scotland before switching to gliders in the early 90’s . Competed in Thermal and slope in Scotland before moving to NI. Now fly with Northern Ireland model Soaring Association (NIMSA). Also fly small electrics, but first love is slope soaring.

I have been flying models for the last 20years. At first flying sports planes on land and on water. I was 6yrs with U.M.A.C. and then was a founder member of Langford Model Aviation along with Ian Robb. In the time with Langford Model Aviation I have been more interested in Scale Aircraft which meant that I could start building large scale models. As the new R/C secretary for the area this year, I’m hoping to promote the scale scene in N.I this year and hope to hear from other scale modellers in the coming months.
