Indoor Duration models are like traditional outdoor Rubber Duration models, but adapted to fly indoors, where it is possible to achieve much longer flights than outdoors. Beacuse there is little wind or turbulence to hinder their flight pattern, they come much nearer the maximum performance achievable, the main limitation being the size of the hall, especially the height.
Beginners models are ideal for introducing new fliers to basic building techniques, and particularly for School and Youth group Education Programmes. The BMFA have an Education Programme with a series of models available as very low priced kits which are ideal for Science and Technology Projects. There is also a Teacher's Pack which integrates the models into the School Corriculum, teaching many subjects whilst at the same time enthusing pupils by letting them see their own model take to the air.
Competition Indoor models are very light (1.2 Grammes for an F1L), fly very slowly, and for a long time (20 mins plus). The building techniques are nothng exceptional, they just need a bit of practice. They naturally appeal to people who like lightweight and precise building, being mainly built with very good quality balsa, some wire and very fine plastic film. Ther are many specialist suppliers who can provide the high quality materials required.
